The design may encourage you to think of the Nest Hub Max as a Google tablet with a speaker attached, but it’s really nothing of the sort. There’s a touchscreen and you can partially control the unit with it, but to remotely unlock its potential you’ll need to talk to it, or at least “cast” content from your phone. Setting up the Home Max is super easy, but requires an Android or iOS device. Just plug it in, open the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet, tap the button to set up a new device and follow the instructions. It took about five minutes to get the speaker out of the box and playing music. While the original, smaller Google Home speaker looks like an air freshener or scented candle, the Home Max is simple and beautiful.

How does the Google Home Max sound?
If you have a Google Chromecast, getting anything to play on your TV is seamless. That said, browsing is basically impossible because you’re interfacing with your TV through voice. You have to know what you want to watch, and then tell the Google Home Max to cast it. You can also assume, of course, that Google's own speakers will get new features first (that's what has happened with Alexa speakers). Unless the Link is compellingly better, audio-wise, the Max is a safer bet. Overall, the Google Home Max is one of the best smart speakers that you can buy if you're looking for quality audio. It faces tough competition from Sonos's lineup, but offers a quality audio experience nonetheless. However, the Home Max won't be worth your money if you're not fussy about sound experiences.
Should you buy the Google Home Max?
